Right now... i'm reading "Irresistible Revolution"

I'm almost done with this book written by Shane Claiborne. It is hands down one of my faves! It is so radical yet, not because he's just suggesting that we take what Jesus said literally... what a concept! I love how blunt his writing is. Every page makes me step back and take a breath. For example...
-Church-
"I recall thinking that if God was as boring as Sunday morning, I wasn't sure I wanted anything to do with him. And I remember joking with friends that if someone had a heart attack on Sunday morning, the paramedics would have to take the pulse of half the congregation before they would find the dead person." "Where had the fire gone? I learned about John Wesley, who said that if they didn't kick him out of town after he spoke, he wondered if he had really preached the gospel." (pg. 43)

This was so good to read since the subject of church has been constantly on my heart. It is so hard to trust that God is in some aspects of a church when they are tempting me to take and hour nap on Sunday morning or telling my favorite Bible study leader that they can't finish the summer study because he has accepted a new job outside of the church. This has provided me with much frustration and sometimes distracts me from the beautiful and graceful point of God's love. It sucks when the politics of a church get in the way of this truth, grace, and love. "Where has the fire gone?" Where is the passion? the love? the excitement? Where is the cross?
